We flew back to Paris from Nice on Monday night and began class again Tuesday. Madame Picco, who worked in the couture house of Madame Gres, taught our class. She didn't know any English so Dr. Ellis, some girls in the class, and eventually Agnes, a teacher from PAA, translated. Mme. Picco talked about the history of Mme Gres and her couture house. Then, Mme Picco taught us how to make tiny pleats using a technique that Mme Gres invented. Mme Picco is the last of the workers still alive from that house. She has passed on the pleating technique to one younger woman who now works for John Paul Gaultier.
In the later afternoon, we went to the Quai Branly Museum to see an exhibit of the Paracas. We learned about mummies made by Peruvians and looked at the textiles they used to wrap the mummies. It was like a boring elementary school field trip.
Lindsay and I went to the grocery store twice yesterday, and we cooked in our apartment. Our kitchen is so tiny, but it has everything we need. I think we might be saving money eating this way, if we eat everything we bought instead of going out.
